Geotoura - Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We categorise our accommodation in the British Isles into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels - Four categories
Encantador (‘Charming’): Privately run bed & breakfast guesthouses with a small number of cosy rooms and a lovingly prepared breakfast.
Especial (‘Special’): Enjoy stylish interiors and comfort in the mostly family-run boutique hotels with historic charm. Stay in the city centre or in beautiful natural surroundings.
Extraordinario (‘Extraordinary’): Centuries-old buildings, such as historic manor houses or castles, sometimes also modern design hotels with special architecture. Usually equipped with a restaurant, bar or spa area.
Luna de Miel (‘honeymoon’): For your honeymoon – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
The fascinating culture of Southern Norway
The cultural impressions along this tour of southern Norway are characterised by contrasts between urban flair and rural tranquillity. In Oslo, modern architecture meets traditional museums – the new Munch Museum on the fjord shore is just as impressive as the historic Vigeland Sculpture Park. Further south, in Kristiansand, charming wooden house districts and the old town of Posebyen characterise the cityscape – an authentic example of southern Norwegian architecture.
In Bergen, Bryggen, the old Hanseatic quarter, and numerous museums tell of the city’s eventful past. Norwegian culture can be experienced particularly deeply in the small town of Aurland, where craftsmanship, ancient knowledge and the tranquillity of the fjord come together. In Njardarheimr, the reconstructed Viking village in Gudvangen, you can also encounter history in an unusually lively way: no display cases, no audio guides – instead, real craftsmen working with traditional techniques, cooking, forging or building boats. Visitors are invited to ask questions, join in or simply watch. It feels like you are not only learning, but also becoming part of this ancient world for a moment.
Stunning nature in Southern Norway
This round trip showcases the dramatic beauty of southern Norway’s natural landscape. Between the open sea at Mandal and the majestic fjords lies a landscape that is constantly changing. Rugged coastlines, deep fjords and towering rock plateaus alternate, creating a natural panorama that is second to none. One highlight is the view from Preikestolen over Lysefjord, especially in the early morning hours when mist hangs over the water.
Cuisine meets Nordic cosiness
The tour through southern Norway also takes you on a culinary journey through fascinating contrasts. In the coastal towns of Kristiansand and Mandal, the menus are dominated by fresh catches from the sea – freshly caught cod, tender fjord salmon fillets or traditional fish soups such as ‘Fiskesuppe’ reflect the deep connection to the sea. Stavanger surprises with innovative Nordic cuisine in small bistros that focus on regional products: reindeer, mushrooms from the forests and berries from the mountains are creatively reinterpreted.
Bergen is home to what is probably the country’s most famous market hall, where local produce and Norwegian specialities promise an authentic taste experience. A visit to one of the cider factories around the Hardangerfjord is particularly memorable – the combination of fruit growing and traditional pressing methods gives the drinks an extraordinary flavour.
Authentic and relaxed The South of Norway
A hike to Varnes fyr – a remote lighthouse overlooking the North Sea – is a real insider tip and rewards visitors with complete tranquillity and endless horizons. Right in the heart of Kristiansand, directly on the market square, is the Kristiansand Kunsthall. The light-flooded, spacious rooms regularly host changing exhibitions of contemporary art, featuring works by both Norwegian and international artists.
