Great Britain 2024 & 2025
For me, Great Britain is a bit elegant, a bit original and also a bit quirky. I just love it, from the Royal Family to myths like Loch Ness and five o’clock tea. I particularly enjoy drifting through the streets of London and letting the buzz of life wash over me. In Canterbury, I dream of times gone by and sometimes feel for a moment as if I’m on my way to Hogwarts among its old buildings.
And then there’s the other Great Britain. The enchanted landscapes of Scotland with deep lochs, vast moors and stories of kelpies, water horses and ghosts in old goose barns. Just meadows, horses and a gentle breeze – for me, these are the moments of tranquillity on Dartmoor and Exmoor. Just pause for a moment, take a deep breath and be with myself – these places are simply fantastic for that.

The South of England has significantly shaped our image of the once great seafaring nation. On your round trip here, you will follow Charles Dickens through the fantastically beautiful Canterbury with its weavers’ houses and imposing cathedral. In Oxford, let the majesty of one of the world’s most famous and renowned universities waft around your nose. In the middle of the green island landscape, you will discover the famous English garden art in gardens such as the Mansions of Great Dixter. A strong contrast to this is London, which never sleeps. Countless museums, the Tower, street art, galleries, events, … – there’s always something to do here in the capital. Edinburgh also has a rich cultural scene in the north, with the Royal Mile at its heart. Here, it is only a stone’s throw from great architecture to countless stories that have shaped the city and sometimes the whole of Scotland.
Beyond the borders of the historic cities, another world begins. Head to the Jurassic Coast on your round trip through Great Britain, for example, and discover a piece of the world from the time of the dinosaurs on the rugged, impressive coastline. Drive north in a hire car, marvel at the bizarre rock needles of Duncansby Head on the coast of Scotland or look out for perhaps Europe’s most famous monster at Loch Ness.
You can fortify yourself on your journey with traditional cuisine that often lives up to its somewhat special reputation in a different way than you might expect. So it doesn’t have to be haggis or meat in mint sauce. The British are just as good at hefty English breakfasts, shepherd’s pie or rumpled potatoes as they are at fine, modern and rather light cuisine and incredibly delicious desserts. Many a café still has its own recipes for juicy cakes and delicious tarts and they don’t just taste good at five o’clock with tea.
