Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Athens and the Peloponnese are steeped in history. Mighty columns of ancient temples, the sophisticated acoustics of ancient theatres, the ghost town of ancient Monemvasia on the rocky plateau, the residential towers of the Mani, majestic fortresses with Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Turkish features, … There are many places on this route where it is worth getting out of the hire car and exploring the big and small secrets of your stop.
You will discover many a detail that only the locals can tell you. Nowhere is the country more exciting for fans of classical Greece than here. Simply take all the time in the world to discover the known and unknown contemporary witnesses at your leisure.
Experience nature
Greece is known for its picturesque Mediterranean landscape. On this individual 15-day round trip, however, you will discover more than the rugged charm and dream beaches of the Peloponnese, bathed in green and warm earth tones. A cool breeze welcomes you as you peer beneath the cloak of this landscape and enter the dark realm of the stalactite caves of the Mani.
Bizarre forests of stalactites and underground lakes take you into a world where the old gods and legends suddenly seem very close again. A little further on, to the very tip of the peninsula – and another special cave opens up by the sea: the Hades Cave, where Orpheus once entered in search of his Eurydice. It is idyllic and also a little magical here at the end of the world, where the realm of the gods began.
Northern Greece – delicious variety
A great trip also includes getting to know the country’s typical dishes. Northern Greece has a lot to offer. Freshly caught fish is not only available on the coast, but also at Lake Pamvotida: if you enjoy a great view, it tastes even better. Do you love game and stews, accompanied by aromatic herbs and fresh wild mushrooms? Then our round trips through the interior of northern Greece are just the thing for you. Meatless but very filling and extremely delicious are the pies filled with wild herbs and cheese or vegetables.
The influence of Asia Minor can be felt and tasted in Macedonian cuisine, as shown by the revani, a semolina cake dipped in syrup. Imam bayildi, stuffed aubergines, and lachanopita, a puff pastry cake often filled with spinach, are in the same tradition. Do you think a good meal should be accompanied by a good wine? That’s no problem in northern Greece either, as grapes are not only made into good wines in Naoussa, but also in Chalkidiki, Drama and Amyntaio.
The authentic Greece
The sun and fertile soils of Greece give its cuisine a wonderful, highly flavoured oil that is determined by the character of the landscape and the variety. In your hire car, stop off at one of the traditional groves near Kalamata and follow the oil’s journey from the tree to the bottle.
You will listen to the farmer’s stories about the olives and the trees, some of which are very old. In the mill, you will learn the secret of high-quality oils and taste the exquisite product with typical local snacks. Let the Greek sun melt on your tongue during this visit.
