Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
Diocletian’s Palace in Split is a key to ancient Split and the Roman period in the region. Once the summer residence and military camp of the famous emperor, the splendour of the rectangular complex also reflects the life and society of its time. The magnificent Golden Gate was reserved for the imperial family. The common people, on the other hand, entered the lofty walls through the simple Iron Gate. The time of the emperors and commoners is preserved in the cellars of the palace.
Only at first glance does the vault, supported by four-sided columns, appear empty and not worth a visit. If you take a closer look, you will discover the reflection of the imperial flats above and the medieval living quarters where the inhabitants processed grapes and olives.
Even further south, your 9-day round trip through Dalmatia takes you to Romans, Florentines, Ottomans and other eras. Dubrovnik is a melting pot of cultures and eras, whose city walls and three fortresses also became the backdrop for the cult series “Game of Thrones”. You will discover what fascinated the makers of the series when you walk through the Lovrijenac Fortress on the impressive rock massif in the west of the city. This masterpiece by architect Michelozzo takes you back to the time of the Florentines, who once looked out to sea from the mighty walls.
Experience nature
Between Knin and Skradin lies a paradise on earth. The water of the Krka flows over seven large and numerous smaller waterfalls towards the sea, conjuring up some unearthly moments of beauty. White spray makes its way over rough rock through lush greenery and feeds cool pools of crystal-clear water that invite you to take a break.
Leave the hire car behind and wander along the wooden paths into a world that almost seems to be inhabited by fairytale creatures. They may be hiding in the caves of the national park. But one thing is certain: people lived here very early on, as 6,000-year-old artefacts from the Oziđana Cave prove. If you descend into the belly of the earth, you will encounter these people again – but also one or two bats clinging to the rough rock faces.
Croatia culinary treasures
No question: Croatian cuisine is meat-heavy and not very delicate. Rustic, traditional recipes still characterise the everyday lives of many families and restaurant menus. Meat, vegetables, potatoes, olive oil and herbs are on the menu. Only on the coast are fish and seafood common. Sounds a bit too simple? But it tastes great.
Croatians particularly love dishes from the peka: the ingredients simmer for several hours in this cast-iron pot. Take a look at the lid and let yourself be seduced by the aroma – and the butter-tender meat.
The authentic Croatia
Korčula is undoubtedly one of the highlights of this 9-day tour of Dalmatia. Get to know the city on the island of the same name on an exploration with a personal guide. Not only will you be following in the footsteps of Marco Polo, who was born here. You won’t miss any of the sights in this wonderful Mediterranean city and learn exciting details about its buildings and history that only locals know – and are happy to share with you.
