Geotoura – Hotel concept
When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.
We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.
Boutique Hotels – Four categories
Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.
Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.
Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.
Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …
Character of this travel idea
Experience culture
San Sebastián is said to have the most Michelin stars per square metre in Europe. However, the pintxos and a first-class Txakolí are not the only reasons to visit the city. Here you will also discover pretty ensembles such as the Palacio Miramar. Situated right by the sea and surrounded by a lovingly tended garden, the Palacio invites you to take a relaxing stroll.
Or would you prefer something a little more colourful and modern? Then Bilbao is the place for you. There are plenty of treats for the mind here – and not just in the futuristic Guggenheim Museum. On this 11-day round trip through Northern Spain , you can also discover the sculptures on Bilbao’s River Nervión, the Deusto Library and the delicate Zubizuri Bridge.
Less well-known than these eye-catching buildings, but at least as good is the cuisine of Bilbao, where the pintxos are sometimes as creative as the modern art of the museums.
Experience nature
Shortly after Santillana del Mar, a green postcard Spain begins. One of the most exciting caves in Europe is hidden in this painted landscape: the Altamira Cave. Its wall paintings are around 14,000 years old and invite you to immerse yourself in the beginnings of mankind on the Spanish peninsula, even if you can only visit the meticulously recreated Neocueva. The Picos de Europa are also very pristine.
Rough rock, deep gorges and imposing peaks entice you to hike in a marvellous mountain panorama. Accompanied by majestic vultures, you will explore the almost alpine side of the Iberian Peninsula on your individual round trip through Northern Spain .
Northern Spain - a culinary delight
The Atlantic offers an immense variety of sea creatures, so that the cuisine in the coastal regions of northern Spain is dominated by dishes based on fish and seafood. The rain-rich region provides lush green dairy pastures, so that northern Spain is also known as the home of the finest cheeses. These include the creamy Queso de Nata or the Queso de Cabrales from Asturias, a blue cheese made from goat’s or sheep’s milk. The delicately smoked Queso San Simón from Galicia, on the other hand, offers a completely different flavour experience.
Fresh vegetables, hearty stews, as well as lamb and game dishes, which you will find on the menu, especially in the interior of the country, will also make your Road trip through northern Spain a culinary experience. Savour the Sidra, poured in a thin stream from a great height into a glass. Wine connoisseurs are sure to enjoy the refreshing white wines, such as Txakolí or Montesierra, the Galician Albariño. The red wines from La Rioja are also wonderful accompaniments to a good meal.
This is ensured by several star chefs who have chosen San Sebastián as their culinary stronghold to demonstrate their culinary skills. Legend has it that a queimada – a Galician drink made from high-proof schnapps, sugar, coffee beans and lemon slices heated in a clay pot – is even said to keep witches away. Then nothing can really go wrong. By the way: the tapas of the north – the pintxos – are ideal for a snack in between meals.
The authentic Northern Spain
A fine bouquet, an explosion of flavours on the tongue… Bodega David Moreno near Logroño invites you to taste the exquisite wines and fine snacks directly at the winery. Watch the barrel tapping and learn more about the grapes, soils and climate that make the bodega’s wines so unique.
